The latest opportunities to work in Coleen Suckling’s lab in the University of Rhode Island, USA are listed here. If you have seen any advertised opportunities from Dr Suckling’s lab elsewhere and they are not listed here, this means that those positions have already been filled and are now closed.
Are you looking for a Graduate Opportunity & have a strong academic record? I’m considering taking on a student to conduct marine microplastic / seafood sustainability / climate change research who is enthusiastic, dedicated & driven with evidence of a strong & developing academic record to join my research team. While I currently do not have any open grant funded opportunities, this could change quickly with current grant applications under consideration. For now, I’m recruiting through our highly competitive TA/RA opportunities URI (these can be transitioned to grant funded RAs) and include the following:
- Teaching Assistantship (pending the availability of positions & subjects that need to be taught, we generally largely need students with some classes completed on human anatomy / physiology) with evidence of teaching/equivalent training experience.
- First Year Dean’s Diversity Fellowship (applicable to new incoming graduate students providing two years of funding pending performance), which provides a mechanism to recruit graduate students from under-represented groups into graduate programs at URI.
All who are interested in joining my lab should send the following in email enquiries (to: coleensuckling{at}uri.edu) to state your interest & to organize a phone/virtual meeting:
- Provide your university transcripts.
- Provide a CV. There is no page limit and it must include:
-
- GPAs.
- A list of skills & responsibilities associated with your various career roles. This link provides some great guidance to help develop this language.
- Examples of teaching (e.g. classes/labs/training individuals).
-
- Provide a short statement indicating the following:
-
- Indicate whether you are seeking MS or PhD graduate studies.
- Which fellowship you would like to be considered for & explain in a few brief sentences why you would make a good competitive applicant for the fellowship (hint: read the fellowship criteria provides in the links above, which will need to identify how you fit the eligibility for the Diversity Fellowship or what makes you a competitive candidate to be considered for the teaching fellowship.
- Why you are seeking graduate opportunities, what makes you ready for graduate school, how the Suckling lab will align with your goals & what you can bring to the team.
-
It is best to make enquiries well before December 2024 when our program deadline closes. I typically operate within the Ecology & Ecosystem Science (EES) and Sustainable Agriculture Food Systems Graduate Degrees within our overarching Biological and Environmental Sciences (BES) Graduate Program. Note that applications should NOT be made through the Graduate School of Oceanography which is often confused with the Graduate School, the latter where applications should be submitted.
